A waterjet loom uses a fine, pressurised jet of water to carry the weft across the warp. A small pump delivers a measured shot of water for every pick, and the water draws the yarn smoothly from one selvedge to the other.
Why weavers choose waterjet
- High speed — fast insertion for strong output from every loom
- Low running cost — water is cheaper to deliver than compressed air, and power use is modest
- Quiet, steady running — less noise and vibration than mechanical insertion
- Little weft waste — clean insertion with minimal trimming loss
Where it fits
Because the weft gets wet, waterjet weaving suits yarns that do not absorb water — polyester, nylon and other synthetic filament yarns. That makes it the mainstay of synthetic grey fabric weaving in Surat: saree and dress-material bases, linings and other polyester fabrics.
It is not the right choice for cotton, viscose or wool, which absorb water — for those, an airjet loom is the better fit.
Points to plan for
Waterjet weaving needs clean, filtered water and a proper drainage and drying arrangement for the woven fabric. They are worth planning alongside the looms.
